map
As a prerequisite for the
implementation of statistical surveys and censuses, the Statistical Centre of
Iran prepares urban and rural maps of the total country. Before each census or
large-scale survey the maps are updated and all the work related to the
numbering of blocks and villages, enumeration of households in blocks and
villages, delineation of enumeration districts (EDs) and assigning of
enumeration tasks to enumerators are refelected on the maps, Finnally, the
enumerators call at the places in their related EDs according to the addresses
depicted on their maps and do the survey.
Due to the need of reaserchers and consultants of government and
non-government, organizations and academic centres for updated maps, the SCI not
only provides consultancy services but also updates and mechanizes maps and
sells them to the applicants.

Statistical map services
Maps prepared for conducting
censuses and statistical activities in suitable scales for urban and rural areas
are statistical maps. The maps are used for:
1.
Monitoring
geographic coverage of census area;
2.
Finding
location and recognizing requisite addresses;
3.
Adopting
statistical addresses with their geographical locations.
Thereupon, statistical maps
not only show essential natural and artificial geographical features, but
contain statistical addresses also. Such statistical addresses make feasible the
adoption of statistical data in various levels with geographical location.
Hence, providing statistical maps has always been considered as a part of
information dissemination activities.
Archive of Bureau of Map
and Geographical Information
The maps of all urban areas,
mapped rural areas, and Shahrestans of the country are stored in the archive in
transparent format, while the SCI executing censuses and surveys. Routine works
of the bureau for copying and printing are carrying out in this unit. Some

Statistical maps in future
Due to recent changes and
daily growth of technology, there might be changes in preparing, editing,
updating, and archiving processes of statistical maps. The SCI objectives are
using modern technologies specially GIS, as well as moving toward consolidation
of map data required by public and private sectors. Mechanizing statistical
maps, establishing geographical database, analyzing modern updating methods such
as GPS, satellite images, and using PDAs in statistical surveys are current
programs of the bureau.
