Transportation and Communications Iran has had more than 11 thousand Km. railways (main, side and industrial tracks) in 1385 that has promoted to 2.4 % increase given the year before. During the same year, total land transport roads, that was 73 thousand Km., included more than 1400 Km. express ways, 27 thousand Km. main roads (highways, main and wide by- roads), 38 thousand Km. asphalted by-roads,30 thousand Km. sandy by-roads and nearly 2800 Km. others. Reportedly rural roads have been estimated 102 thousand Km. During 1385, 21346 thousand passengers have been transported by railways, 224 million by road transportation vehicles (bus, mini bus limousine and rented cars), and more than 15 million passengers have traveled by air. In the year of the survey, about 33 million tones of cargo have been carried. In the same year approximately 2 millions motor vehicles have been registered in the country with 4.2% decrease. In 1385, there have been 765 million intra-cities, and 160 million inter-city parcels.11 million parcels have been received from abroad and about 3 million parcels were sent overseas. In this year, 22627 thousand telephone lines and over 15 million cell phone lines have been in operation that showed respectively 10.3% and 81% increase in comparison with previous year. In The same year more than 51 thousand villages have been provided with telephone communication with 6.5 % increase.
