Population and Manpower
 

According to the Population and Housing Census conducted in Aban 1385, Iran has 70495782 pop., the density is 43 per Km and the annual average growth stands at 1.6%. Of the whole population, 50.9% are male (35866362) and 49.1% female (34629420).

There have been 17501771 families in 1385, of which 12405584 units reside in urban and 5074866 families in rural areas. 21321 families have been reported unsettled households.

The total births in 1385 have amounted to 1253506 of which 51.3% were boys (642933) and 48.7% girls (610573). Of the said number 844813 born in urban and 408693 in rural areas.    

      The total deaths in this year were 408563, from which 56 % were male and 44% female. Of the overall number, 63% died in urban and 37% in rural areas.

    In 1385, overall marriages across the country have reached 778023 (that indicates 1.2% decrease compared to the previous year), of which 72% has been reported from urban and 28% from rural areas.

    The registered divorces in the same period has been as high as 94040 (with 11.6 % increase compared to the year before), of which 84 % taken place in urban and 16 % in rural areas.

   In the same year the population aged 10 and over reached 59523 thousand of which 23469 thousand (40.6 %) were economically active. It has been reported that of the recent said figure 20476 thousand were employed and 2999 thousand unemployed (or seeking for work).

Of  35538 thousand non- economically active population, 13117 thousand have been students, 16057 thousand housewives, 2974 thousand income recipients and finally 3389 thousand others. Unemployment rate for male aged 10 and over has been 10 %, female 15 % and in urban and rural areas has respectively been 13.4 % and 7.1%. In the same year the unemployment rate of economically active population aged15-24 reached 23.3 %.

   The relative distribution of population aged 10 and over in three major economic sections are: 23.4 % agriculture, 31.8 % industry, and 44.8 % services.
